Michael Mahony

I qualified as a Master of Chiropractic in 2007 from the Anglo-European Chiropractic College, Bournemouth, UK. Over the past 7 years, I have gained extensive experience working in Ireland at a number of different clinics. The types of patient’s symptoms that I have treated include sports injuries, arthritis related problems, and work related postural injuries amongst many others. I take a holistic approach to the health of the body believing that for us to function properly and limiting disease, we need to give our body the proper ingredients. Given these proper ingredients, the body has a huge capacity to self heal – putting the body in that position is key. My take on health is that there are three ingredients in our life to help our bodies express health and heal effectively: (1) Exercise and correct posture, (2) Balanced nutrition and (3) The ability to manage stress. By doing our best to address all three of these, we give ourselves a better chance of achieving the best we can from our bodies.

Native to Finland, I graduated with a Masters of Chiropractic degree from the AECC Chiropractic College in Bournemouth, England. Before studying chiropractic I was heavily involved in the horse industry and worked at showjumping yards home and abroad, also competing at a national level. By incorporating chiropractic care into my life I saw dramatic improvements in my posture and movement, and was able to reverse the effects of the numerous knocks and falls I had sustained over the years while riding. I believe chiropractic not only works miracles for numerous pain conditions, but can also provide an excellent preventative measure for all people alike. My interest in horses also led me to study a postgraduate degree in animal chiropractic which I completed in 2016 with the International Academy of Veterinary Chiropractic (IAVC).

My inspiration and desire to take care of others came at a young age. I grew up seeing my father suffering from important chronic low back pain after an accident during his teen years. Since I was a child, I’ve been trying to bring relief to my father. Just by giving him simple back massages, I quickly realized the potential of the hands to ease people’s pain. When he was really in pain, seeing his chiropractor was the only thing that could help him feel better. Coming back from his visits, he would always feel and look much better. Through the eyes of a child I kind of idealized the chiropractor and started thinking: « What is this man doing to my dad? »

I attended the IFEC (Franco-European Institute of Chiropractic) in Paris, where I learned the fundamentals of diagnose, managing and treating patients till my graduation in 2018. Along this 6 year program, I find myself passionate about biomechanics, anatomy, physiology but overall by the concept of Innate Intelligence of the human body, its self healing capacity, a fundamental in chiropractic.

I have also attended many practical seminars to enhance my knowledge and skills in order to grow with the evolving field of techniques and understanding: Sacro-Occipital Technique (S.O.T.), Applied Kinesiology (A.K), Gonstead...

My goal is to work with each patient in a holistic way, taking into account all factors physical, mental, and social, lifestyle and nutritional, to achieve spinal health through a individually tailored treatment plan. My motivation is to continue to add to my arsenal of techniques to give each patient the best treatment possible and raise awareness about our ability to live healthier lives.

Chiropractic Assistant

Many years ago, because of an accident, I hurt my back very badly, slipped 4 discs and ended up with a twisted spine and constant pain. I could barely walk or dress myself, never mind handling my small children. I was in constant pain for which I was taking regular painkillers. Though I could not feel the pain when on the medication, I could still feel that my back was getting worse. Having had several medical consultations and trying other treatments, it was recommended that surgery was the only option - however, there were no guarantees it would be successful.

Then a friend suggested that I go to see a chiropractor.

Well, I had nothing to lose so I decided to try it. After the very first “adjustment” I felt instant relief so I continued with regular treatments for a couple of months, all the while things were improving. After about 3 months, I was totally fixed! I could walk, run, help my children, and do all the things that I had practically given up on before. My back has been fine ever since.

So, I fell in love with this modern approach to helping people and I have been promoting it to everyone I speak to, ever since. I started working in the Blessington Street clinic in 1999. I love my job today as much as I did when I started. I love seeing people come in and then see the difference in them after just a few adjustments. I love hearing them tell of their improvements. Nothing gives me greater satisfaction than helping people with this natural approach.

My kids have grown up with chiropractic. Whatever occasional illnesses they have experienced were totally handled with chiropractic, instead of the “normal” approach to dealing with health issues. Neither of my kids have been to a G.P in about 18 years and Chiropractic has helped them, along with good nutrition, in whatever ailment they have had, be it a cold, sore throat, allergy etc. They were both prevented from having scoliosis in adult years because Chiropractic treated it when they were young children. They are both healthy and doing well in life and are rarely ill – which is every parent’s dream.

For me, Chiropractic is the best solution to physical problems and emotional problems they can cause. I love it and I hope everyone gets to experience the same help that comes from chiropractic that I and my family have had over the years. I am living proof that it works.
